The New Sussex Singers Bursary Scheme 2026-27
Now open to Tenors - March 2026

A versatile chamber choir, performing innovative programmes to a high standard around the county. Our Tenor bursary is ideal for aspiring students and young semi-professional singers who wish to develop their choral singing, sight-reading and musicianship skills. The bursary is open to singers aged 18-35, or students in full or part-time music education. The new season features some fantastic music with a focus on contemporary repertoire, ‘a cappella’ performance, and an exciting new commission.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Attend a minimum of 75% of weekly rehearsals.
  • Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings 7:30 - 9:30pm currently at Ringmer Village Hall, Lewes.  BN8 5QH. Our typical season runs from September- Early July, with breaks for Christmas and Easter.
  • Participate in 4 concerts during the year
  • Participate in other musical events in the choir calendar where able
  • Prepare adequately for rehearsals in your own time (rehearsal aids provided)

In return, the candidate will receive the following benefits:

  • Occasional solo opportunities in performance, dependent on repertoire
  • One private singing lesson a term with the MD
  • Learn advanced ensemble singing techniques from a professional conductor and singer.
  • Enjoy full complimentary membership of the choir for the period covered by the Bursary (one year). Plus, a £50 allowance per concert
  • Free music hire for the year
  • Two complimentary tickets for each concert

Bursaries are appointed for a year, although there may be opportunity to stay on for an additional year by re-applying.

Please fill in the form to apply telling us about your experience so far and why you would be interested.
